Abstract :
The VOD service is a promising front runner in the multimedia communication era. So many R&D centers and companies are trying to realize this service, in which many possibilities are being validated. We introduce the LGIC VOD network. LGIC has a plan for constructing a VOD network to provide interactive MPEG-1 video services in Korea. This network results from considerations of the Korean community network environment and LGIC´s technological capabilities. The LGIC VOD network consists of a video server system, a video switch, and an ADSL as a community network. We use a set top box and a TV as the CPE devices. One of LGIC´s main goals is to prove the feasibility of VOD services through its network. We describe our VOD network design philosophies, network functions, and future networking considerations for VOD
