Abstract
Power line carrier (PLC) systems used on high voltage transmission lines for protection purposes have been documented to be susceptible to destructive resonant conditions when excited by a harmonic source. However, previous research has not produced generalized modeling of the PLC systems suitable for predicting the frequency responses of the systems. This paper expands previous research by presenting state-space models of three common types of power line carrier systems. The models presented have been simplified and are suitable for calculating the frequency responses of the PLC systems with practical accuracy.
