Abstract :
This paper describes a system that combines fixed stereo and active monocular cameras into a networked platform for security applications. Resembling the human oculomotor system, the goal is to cover wide areas and to focus on specific parts to provide high resolution images of people faces passing through a monitored area. An atomic configuration was implemented, and a custom pan-tilt unit was designed to allow fixed viewpoint calibration. The feasibility of the approach is demonstrated with the results of preliminary experiments.
