Abstract :
Active filters (AFs) are used to compensate for harmonics and reactive component of the load current drawn by nonlinear loads. Reference signal extraction plays crucial role in the control scheme of AF. Recently a lot of attention has been given to single phase p-q theory as a method for reference current signal extraction for AF. In this work the method of reference signal generation using single phase p-q theory is presented in a simple form. The simplified procedure is applied to an AF used in a single-phase system with non-linear load. The simulation results in MATLAB/SIMULINK environment validate the effectiveness of the proposed method of reference extraction using single-phase p-q theory.
