Research activities for transmission planning and reliability in competitive electricity markets

This presentation outlines the organisation, the funding mechanism and the main goals of the Italian Research dealing with the Electrical System. Then the focus of the presentation will move to the research activities for transmission planning and reliability in the competitive electricity markets. In this respect, the presentation will deal with the following issues: a) What are the goals of Transmission Expansion in competitive electricity markets? b) What are the indicators for assessing the fulfilment of these goals? c) How these indicators can be integrated in the planning methodologies and modelled in the planning software? Finally some details on modelling and implementation in the planning tools will be provided in the presentation.
