Abstract :
The spectral transmission properties of a self-similar corrugated optical waveguide are theoretically studied. The considered structure can be realized by a planar waveguide with a square wave modulation of the guiding film thickness such that the thickest layers belong to a triadic Cantor set. The transmission spectrum exhibits localized peaks inside forbidden frequency band gaps. This feature could be very useful in the design of novel filters. The nonlinear behaviour of the structure is also considered
