Abstract
We propose a new bit-detection method which is applicable to high-density, d=1 optical recording systems. The new method combines the advantages of computational simplicity, non-recursive operations, as well as performance which approaches that of maximum likelihood sequence detection (MLSD), even at very high recording densities.
