Abstract
This paper presents an improved algorithm for sensor monitoring based on the algorithm proposed by Dilman et al. in. By analyzing the probability of the alarm occurrence with the updated information, the proposed algorithm prolongs the interval between two consecutive polling periods when no alarm could occur. This method reduces the amount of monitoring traffic further than the method in and still guarantees the detection of the alarm. The simulation results show that the proposed monitoring scheme reduces both the number of polling and the cost of the management of WSANs, consequently improves the performance.
