Abstract :
A GMR head for magnetic recording is an extremely sensitive device and is easily affected by electrostatic discharge (ESD). It was found that a coated wire can generate electrostatic voltage which a high peak current can discharge to the ground. When connecting a coated wire to a GMR head, the electrostatic charge on the wire transfers to the GMR head with sufficient peak current to cause ESD damage.
