  • Abstract
Reliability analysis is an important tool in the design of power supply systems for large computer/communications installations. A study recently undertaken involved the analysis of such an installation. The authors describe in general terms the approach adopted in the study including the standards set for the quality and availability of electrical power to be delivered to the technical facilities and the probabilistic methods employed in the evaluation of the relevant reliability indices. Lifetime operations and support (maintenance) are also covered as essential components of the assessment. The authors demonstrate that the statistical analytic techniques which are well established in other fields are also applicable in the field of power systems reliability and availability specification and assessment
