Abstract :
Summary form only given, as follows. Current research efforts in the area of CFA´s and CFO´s make extensive use of computer simulation to reduce design time, investigate new design concepts, and examine the performance envelope. In this research framework we have examined an industrial heating magnetron, the baby amplitron and a high power rising sun magnetron. We will outline the procedures for obtaining high quality simulation results in an engineering and research environment. Heavy emphasis will be placed on diagnostic procedures, which have exact or close analogs in physical engineering measurement and practice. The simulation instrument used in this research is the MAGIC Tool Suite. MAGIC is an electromagnetic particle-in-cell code, a finite-difference, time-domain code for simulating plasma physics processes, those processes that involve interactions between space charge and electromagnetic fields. As a result, the application suite is applicable to broad classes of plasma physics problems. The software suite includes powerful algorithms to represent structural geometries, material properties, incoming and outgoing waves, particle emission processes, and so forth. It has a mature and robust package of diagnostic features that have make it the tool of choice for many universities and laboratories.
