Abstract
The purpose of the paper is to extend the analytical techniques to nonlinear synchronization schemes in optical communications, and assess the influence of the photodiode (PIN/APD) noise in the process. Two maximum likelihood-Gaussian noise (ML-GN) synchronizers are dealt with because they are known to be close to the optimum (Cramer-Rao bound) in a Gaussian noise environment. For comparison purposes a simple delay and multiply synchronizer is also considered
