  • Abstract
Two unequal error protection (UEP) techniques are presented. The first technique will illustrate how the information digits corresponding to the columns of a puncturing matrix exhibit different levels of error protection. The second scheme Is based on biasing the probability with which certain states of the convolutional encoder occur. Knowledge of this bias is utilized within the Viterbi decoder to provide an improved error protection for certain digits
