Abstract :
Summary form only given. The remaining issues of the current Plasma Display Panel (PDP) research are efficiency enhancement and power reduction. For this purpose we use 2-D fluid, kinetic, and hybrid simulations, which reproduce the Paschen breakdown curve and the secondary electron emission coefficient. We examine various geometries, gas compositions, and material properties to optimize the power consumption distribution and the light emission efficiency. For example, the efficiency can be enhanced by varying the front dielectric shape to generate more Xe excited states or by increasing the rear dielectric constant to modify the plasma distribution in the cell. Pulse shape variation can also affect the PDP cell properties. A proper pulse shaping can reduce the power consumption inside the cell. The electrons remain longer because of the weakened electric field to produce more excited Xe, which increases the overall light efficiency,.
