Abstract :
The paper presents a new technique for assisting network planers determine the optimum rating and position of dispersed generators in an established distribution network, considering practical objectives and constraints over a number of planning years. The tool exploits conventional techniques in assessing the constraints imposed by the network, subsequently using genetic algorithms to provide an optimization of the decision making process. The operation of the technique was demonstrated on the IEEE 14 bus system, suggesting that the developed tool is flexible and effective in addressing concerns faced by practical planning engineers.
