Abstract :
The effects of different types of wavelets on image reconstruction is investigated. Because there are different types of wavelets, one of the major problems is to determine the best type of wavelet to use for a particular application, for instance, a communication system. Another problem is how best to determine that the reconstructed image is a near perfect reconstruction of the original image. A simulated model of the multiresolution technique is used. Images of varying sizes, backgrounds, textures and intensities are used to test the algorithms and determine results. The results indicate that shorter wavelets perform better than longer wavelets. The results also demonstrate that orthogonal wavelets seem to perform better than biorthogonal wavelets
