Abstract
To design a stable and fully-controllable process for steel plate conveyance with less noise, feasibilities of incorporating the linear induction motor scheme have been intensively investigated. By implementing appropriate fixed poles on top of the rollers at the run-out-table of a mill, controllable two-dimensional forces can thus be provided to drive the movable steel plate to the desired directions. An on-line strip-based force estimation scheme combined with fuzzy-based controller has been developed, along with numerical and experimental verifications to show the adequacy of the proposed system for practical applications.
