Abstract :
A novel modulation classifier for the three CPMs described in IRIG 106 is developed. The classifier is based on comparing histograms of measured phase shifts to the three true discrete phase shift densities using the Kullback-Leibler distance. Simulation results show that the classifier correctly identifies the true modulation for all three cases when Eb/N0 ≥ 30 dB. Even though a relative high signal-to-noise ratio is required for the classifier to operate in a satisfactory way, this method is able to correctly identify al three, in contrast to the previously published classifier devoted to the IRIG 106 modulations.
