Abstract :
A synchronous 64.8 GHz experimental mobile radio system to measure bit error rate (BER) performance in multipath indoor environments has been presented. It has been shown that identical phase locked oscillators (PLOs) employed at the transmitter and receiver, and synthesized from a common reference, produced variable differential phases at their outputs. The rate of change in this differential phase caused the amplitude of the received I and Q components of the transmitted pseudo-random binary sequence (PRBS), to rise and fall relative to this differential. An alternative and more robust design has been presented ensuring total phase synchronization. Results of experiments conducted to measure BER in an empty room is presented. Vertically polarised omni-directional antennas were employed at both terminals. BER has been estimated for data rates of 1 Kbit/s, 100 Kbit/s, 500 Kbit/s, 1 Mbit/s, 10 Mbit/s, and 50 Mbit/s. Results have shown no dependence of BER on signal-to-noise ratio (SNR).
