Abstract :
Exhaust gas from diesel cars has caused serious air pollution in urban areas. In this study, electrostatic precipitator (ESP) was investigated, with attention to suppress abnormal reentrainment for conductive diesel particles. A dust pocket has been developed, consisting of a metal mesh backed with a barrier discharge electrode. It was installed downstream of the collecting electrode. Conductive particles touching to the mesh of the dust pocket are pulled into the high electric field region, and are oxidized by the barrier discharge. The experimental results indicated that the deterioration of the collection efficiency due to dust reentrainment could be suppressed, and the carbon particles were oxidized.
