Abstract
British Gas operates an extensive nationwide telecommunications network carrying both data and voice traffic. Three major networks carry the traffic: a microwave radio network, a leased line network and an X.25 network. British Gas wanted an integrated communications network management system (ICMS) that would cure the problems associated with monitoring three separate NMS and that could grow and expand in line with their expanding network. The ICMS solution met the requirements in the following way: multi-level alarm processing was provided by using some of the modules from the data capture software tools; a full colour human computer interface (HCI) was built from the graphical display software tools; comprehensive data control facilities were provided by the data capture modules and the relational database
