  • Abstract
De-interlacing is conversion to progressive scanning from interlaced scanning and necessary for flat panel display. It is also useful for a picture format conversion which include temporal-vertical processing. In de-interlacing, a motion compensation for inter-field interpolation is useful to improve the picture quality of motion area. About the motion compensation, recursive method using converted frame and bi-directional interpolation are proposed. At first, we compare the performance of these methods. Then, we propose new de-interlacing method using both methods rationally. In proposed method, the recursive method is used mainly for motion estimation. Bi-directional method is used for interpolation by the motion vector from recursive method. Finally, we compare the original progressive scanning picture with the de-interlaced picture. The proposed de-interlaced method gives better subjective picture quality than conventional methods
