Abstract
In this paper, an improved method on soft-decoding of the (24, 12, 8) Golay code is developed to decode four errors. The method proposed in needs a very huge lookup table consists of 245157 code words to find out the five possible four errors. This proposed method uses a refined four-error lookup table consists of only 8855 syndromes and their corresponding error patterns to find out the five possible four errors. Besides, the proposed method uses the binary search algorithm to speed up the searching time in the lookup table which can reduce up to 9348 times searching time in comparison with the searching time.
