Abstract :
Adaptive QoS control is very useful particularly when the wireless/mobile network is not able to support QoS. One of the representative adaptive QoS control mechanisms is signaling-based adaptive encoding, which adjusts codec bit rate according to the channel condition. This paper proposes an efficient signaling mechanism to support QoS for real-time applications, e.g., voice over IP, which dynamically adjusts the codec bit rate in cellular networks using signaling. The proposed mechanism can provide adaptive media quality even when there is severe traffic congestion in the cellular network. This paper also presents simulation results in terms of delay which is a critical factor for real-time communication.
