Abstract :
This paper presents a basic feasibility study of a Series Advanced VAR Compensator to be applied in ac transmission systems. The proposed system is an active compensator based on self-commutated PWM-Voltage Source Inverters and controlled by an algorithm that applies the concepts of the instantaneous p-q (real-imaginary) power theory. Some aspects of self-commutated voltage source inverters such as switching strategies and connection topologies are discussed. Digital simulation results based on an electromagnetic transient program are presented to validated the analysis
