Video to the battlefield

By providing video teleconferencing (VTC) to the battlefield, commanders and subordinates are capable of exchanging important information face-to-face and in real time, such as: documents; changes in battlefield maps; and site briefings. Through VTC, the parties involved (which can be more than one) have the ability to ask questions, to clarify orders, and to make sure that everyone has the same version ofthe story, all in real time. This paper addresses the different video applications that have been tested and used in the battlefield; the VTC military technology that exists at the present time; the influence it has had on the command and control methods of the military; and what improvements need to be made for the VTC military technology of tomorrow
