  • Abstract
In order to make the sewerage pipelines play an important role in the drainage capacity and extend their service life span, it is necessary to inspect them regularly to estimate the possible existing leakage, corrosion, mud accumulation, and even collapse. This paper presents a novel approach for the sewer inspection through the use of single immersion ultrasonic probe joined with a rotating planar reflector(SIUPRPR); describes the inspection principle of SIUPRPR for sewer inspection; builds the not-missed-detection conditions of SIUPRPR inspection; analyzes the design method of planar reflector; designs sewage pipeline simulation experiment device, which is composed of sink, motor, rotating device, connector, immersion ultrasonic probe and detection instrument. The proposed inspection method and its capabilities were validated through the realization of simulations and experiments. Simulated tests results show that SIUPRAR can be used in sewer inspection.
