Abstract :
Among single-stage single-phase power factor correction circuits, current source topology seems to be among the most suited for low power universal line applications. So far, modeling and control issues of such circuits were neglected. This paper presents simple and accurate average quasi-static models for the single-stage current source PFC converter. Based on the small-signal analysis, the authors show the duty cycle to output voltage and switch current transfer functions for different line conditions. Small signal input and output impedances are also demonstrated as well as a few examples of single and two-loop compensators. This study is useful for engineers designing fast compensators for modern single-stage CCM PFC converters.
