A calibrated GPS ionospheric receiver at NRL is used to specify total electron content in the surrounding region. Global coverage is being approached in the ongoing proliferation of GPS satellites and receivers. Methods to exploit this for HF problems are investigated in the paper. The example of HF communications is considered. Present capability is indicated
