Abstract :
Analysis of the performance of a multihop packet radio network can be carried out at a global level, in which the global throughput is generally taken as a fundamental parameter, and at a local level, where the local throughput is estimated from the packet correct reception probability. In the first case the global throughput can be determined from the local network parameters and after having defined, among other things, the routing strategies. In the present work local performance is analyzed, taking as fundamental parameters the quantities pc(i), i=0, 1,..,N, which express the correct reception probability for a test packet when i interfering packets are present in a given time slot (N is the maximum number of interfering packets). This probability can be written as the product of two other probabilities, the capture probability q(i) and the retention probability pr(i), which are dependant on a number of parameters related to the chosen transmission system. Technical literature on this subject has brought a number of models which allow evaluating probabilities p c(i) (which are usually considered as coincident with q(i)), but generally substantial simplifying assumptions are introduced in order to obtain manageable analytical formulations. In the study these simplifications have been basically removed. The authors describe the basic network characteristics. A simplified analytical model of the transmission system in presence of cochannel interference is then presented. Local network performance is carried out in terms of average throughput using the mentioned model; considerations on system stability are also addressed
