Abstract :
This paper presents a new approach to the problem of stabilizing linear systems by static output feedback. It is shown that the problem is solvable if and only if a simple cost function has a negative value. A direct correspondence is established between a stabilizing feedback gain and a point at which the value of the cost function is negative. The minimization of the cost function is discussed with a convergent algorithm proposed
