Abstract
The wave impedance of artificial dielectrics can simply be controlled selectively by changing its permittivity. The artificial dielectrics that be composed from thin rectangular metal strips on a dielectric sheet are designed to exhibit the anisotropic effect that usable to control the permittivity in any direction. As a consequence, the wave impedance in that direction will change accordingly to the value of permittivity. To demonstrate the feasibility of the method, the reflection and transmission characteristics of artificial dielectrics are analyzed numerically by use of EM field simulation software. The effect of the usage of material thickness and magnetic material to control the characteristics will also be discussed
