Abstract :
A method for reduction of processing time in 3D visualization is proposed, in which normals and hence visibility of surfaces are precalculated by dividing the space into equal-angled units. This is suitable for tutorial systems for human anatomy based on standard microcomputers. In the case of a simple anatomic structure (mandible), average reduction of 60% in computation time for visibility determination was achieved. For complex objects, as is the case of the skull, average reduction for visibility determination was 67%, maintaining the quality of 3D reconstruction
