Abstract :
A novel method for generating highly extinctive optical pulse is proposed in this paper. The continuous-wave (CW) light is modulated by an electrooptic phase modulator, and then modulated by a Mach-Zehnder intensity modulator in which the nonlinear chirp and undesirable positive or negative chirp components are sufficiently restrained. The modulated light is compressed into pulse by an equivalent chirped fiber Bragg grating (ECFBG). The theory illustration and simulation are presented that ultra-short optical pulse with high extinction ratio larger than 30dB and tiny pedestal can be generated in this way, and an experiment based on fabricated ECFBG is shown.
