Abstract
We report on the design and feasibility tests of a hard X-ray (10-100 keV) detector based on a mosaic of scintillation crystals. We use slices of CsI(Tl) of 0.3×1.×20. mm. The slices are optically separated and glued together to form a 20×20 mm2 detector. The mosaic is then read using a position sensitive silicon detector (a CCD or an intensified CCD). We report the overall design, including preliminary estimates using Monte-Carlo techniques, and the first laboratory measurements of the light spread inside the mosaic. These results are discussed in view of the realization of a prototype detector
