Abstract :
A technical assessment of a novel dc line-side force-commutated HVDC inverter suitable for feeding a remote load is carried out. This inverter can control active or reactive power supply of up to 25 MW to a weak ac system, or a dead load. Analysis of inverter operation is made by a piece-wise linearized technique and verified by testing a small scale model. Theoretical and measured results are compared. The behaviour of this inverter to typical system disturbances is investigated.
