Abstract :
Oil spill has a significant impact on the marine environment, and it damages marine organisms badly. It is very effective for monitoring the marine environment which is polluted by oil spill by SAR techniques. The oil patches can be extracted from SAR images effectively through the adaption threshold segmentation approach. However, this method will produce a large number of noise spots. And they will have a negative effect on the follow-up analysis. This paper summarizes a small patch merge algorithm in the applications of analyzing marine oil spill detection information. The small patches will be merged into the adjacent region if the pixel number of patch is less than the predefined threshold. The experimental results show that the method can effectively eliminate the spots.
