Abstract :
Corporate assets retain value long after their primary use has past. These assets end up being considered low value solid waste with disposal being their probable future. Management of waste as an asset rather than scrap may return significant value provided a means can be determined to cause the transformation. In the transformation process business controls including security become essential to ensure material accountability, asset diversion protection and environmentally responsible disposition. These topics are discussed with a focus on the operation of Digital´s US Resource Recovery Center (RRC) where the goal for landfill, verified through experience, is <1% of disposed materials
