Abstract :
This paper clarifies the harmonic problems associated with the application of a half-controlled three-phase bridge rectifier, or semiconverter. A comprehensive explanation of the harmonic generation and an analysis of power converter operation with different firing angles is provided. Voltage and current waveforms showing the distortion characteristics of input and output quantities are presented. The performance of a 2nd harmonic filter to reduce even harmonic injection into the system and to improve power factor is evaluated using the Electromagnetic Transient Program (EMTP)
