Abstract
The paper presents a vision for the concept of a multimedia telephone and its role in providing access to interactive broadband services beyond the digital set-top box/television combination. It is clear that the user interface design will be the key to the success of a multimedia telephone. The paper includes a discussion of some of the key technologies which will be required to build a multimedia telephone and a description of a plan for building a working prototype as a first step towards the realization of a vision for a multimedia telephone
