Abstract
The need for higher levels of motor efficiency is increasing significantly. The author updates users on the opportunities available to achieve higher performance levels and to summarize those activities which are driving these higher levels. The impact of adjustable frequency drives is included. A summary is provided for forecasting the future required levels and the method of demonstrating compliances. The relationship and tradeoffs between efficiency and power factor are addressed
