Abstract :
Summary form only given as follows. DaimlerChrysler, Toyota and other car manufacturers are committed to the commercial production of fuel cell vehicles (FCVs) by 2004. This presentation explores the drivers behind FCVs and the potential growth in vehicle numbers over the coming two decades. The potential growth of the technology is considered in the light of past experience of battery-powered electric vehicles, natural gas vehicles and other alternative-fuelled vehicles, together with competition from advanced internal combustion engines, flywheels and microturbines. The various fuel cell types are explored, together with the fuelling options
