Abstract :
Measurements taken using multiparameter observables (such as differential phase shift or differential attenuation) have the added potential of more precise rainrate estimation as well as offering several additional advantages and features. Possible uses of this technique are diverse, since areal measurements of rainfall intensity are useful for hydrological modeling, the development of rainrate standards, soil erosion monitoring, forest growth evaluation, agricultural planning, and weather characterization. As practical implementation of this technique at K-band is limited, the paper explores tomographic reconstruction potential using differential phase shift measurements at X-band. Implementation advantages and disadvantages at both frequencies are also discussed
