Abstract :
This paper presents neural equalizers for the DVD-ROM system and compares them with a conventional linear LMS equalizer. The channel of a DVD-ROM is characterized as a modulation transfer function and is modeled more precisely by including transition jitter which has the characteristics of coloured noise and domain bloom which causes nonlinear ISI of the channel. Experimental results show that the neural equalizer with the structure of multilayer perceptron produces the strong nonlinear mapping capability thus has the best equalization performance in the presence of nonlinearity
