Abstract
Two novel network configurations employing cross links to allow diversity combining of signals received via different base stations are proposed to provide seamless service for CDMA soft handoffs between cell-clusters controlled by different mobile switching centres. One of these configurations has the desirable property of avoiding handoff oscillations for mobile terminals moving back and forth across a cluster boundary. The dimensions of the cross links are calculated to minimize the blocking probability of handoffs between cell-clusters
