Abstract :
This paper describes the method used by the Multi-Function Electronically Scanned Adaptive Radar (MESAR) track extractor to determine the next time for track update. The MESAR system comprises a single, stationary, active phased array. It is intended as a demonstrator to explore and prove techniques applicable to phased array radars. MESAR is a jointly funded development programme between British Aerospace and the Defence Evaluation and Research Agency (Portsdown). The MESAR system performs surveillance, in a number of regions, to identify new targets; it then maintains tracks on these targets by directing a beam to the predicted target position for each track update. Each track may be updated at a variable rate appropriate to its conditions. The track extractor calculates the best time of update in order to maintain the track whilst minimising the use of radar time
