Abstract :
We study the various issues that face virtual private networking (VPN) services and applications and identify and analyze the requirements associated with the different implementations and user access environments in this paper. Based on the analysis, we propose a management platform based on policy-based networking (PBN) to support and manage VPN across all different implementations and access environments and, at the same time, to make the configuration and management totally transparent to the user. We demonstrate that this management platform is required to enforce the VPN in a flexible and consistent manner mandated by security and quality of service policies and requirements regarding access to enterprise networks regardless of the access environments. This is also very crucial to achieve the scalability in service deployment and the ultimate goals of deploying and using VPN technologies, services and applications
