    With funding in place and governmental approval to begin the detailed design, as well as to proceed with the procurement of long lead-time items, the RHIC (Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider) Project has begun construction at Brookhaven National Laboratory. An overview is presented of the RHIC accelerator configuration, the collider design, and the status of the project.<>
