Abstract :
A method for 3-D reconstruction of the left or right coronary tree from two angiographic views is described. The required information on the two perspective projections is obtained from two views of a cube bearing 15 steel markers, filmed with the same geometric parameters. Then the centerlines of the coronary branches are reconstructed in three dimensions. The true vessel caliber in each reconstructed point of the vessel axis is determined using the information contained in the two angiographic images. Pincushion distortion as well as distance between X-ray focus and arterial cross section in space are thereby taken into account. Using the real distance between two reconstructed axis points and the determined luminal areas at these two points, the corresponding elementary volume element is calculated. The intravascular volume of a coronary branch is obtained by summation of the elementary volumes
