Abstract :
A backscatter model is described for a defoliated forest. The forest is idealized as a two-layered (branch and trunk) medium above a rough interface. A log-periodic antenna array analogy is used to model the branch medium which enables the computation of the forest backscattering coefficient σ0. The influence of branch scattering to the total backscattering from the forest stand has been demonstrated
